The California High-Speed Rail Authority's November 2021 Construction Update highlights the progress being made on the nation's first high-speed rail project. With more completed projects and significant advancement on others, there is steady progress across all high-speed rail construction packages from Madera to Wasco. Featured structures include the Road 27 Grade Separation, Cedar Viaduct, Hanford Viaduct, Tule River Viaduct, and the Wasco Viaduct, among others.

The Authority currently has 119 miles under construction in the Central Valley within three construction packages. Design-builder contractors Tutor-Perini/Zachry/Parsons, Dragados-Flatiron/Joint Venture, and California Rail Builders together have 35 active construction sites with an average of 1,000 workers dispatched each day. WILL CALIFORNIA'S HIGH-SPEED TRAIN PROJECT CREATE MORE CONSTRUCTION JOBS?



The infrastructure bill signed into law on Nov. 15 contains new funding for passenger rail service but is expected to offer only limited support for the nation's bullet train ambitions, including California's high-speed train which has been mired in financial challenges for years.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority claims the high-speed rail project has created more than 5,500 "good-paying" jobs since construction in the Central Valley began, with more than 35 construction sites active along the bullet train system's first 119 miles.

California High-Speed Rail Authority CEO Brian Kelly said last spring he expects the amount of jobs created by the project to increase to somewhere between 1,700 to 2,000 over the next two years.

Despite the promise that comes with the new infrastructure legislation, it's currently unknown how much support will be available for California's high-speed train project. Some experts have estimated the voter-approved project might get about $4 billion in new funding.

At one point, there were hopes for a $100-billion national high-speed rail program - a goal backed by former secretaries of transportation, labor unions, major engineering firms and rail advocates. Those hopes were dashed by the bipartisan infrastructure bill which puts most of the money for rail systems into Amtrak's service on the East Coast, various long-distance Amtrak routes and freight rail systems, the Los Angeles Times reported.

In fact, of the $66 billion for new rail funding, about $30 billion is designated for projects along the busy corridor linking Washington and New York, but there are no earmarks for California.

Meanwhile, the social and climate legislation, the Build Back Better bill (still pending in Congress), contains a $10-billion clause for high-speed rail projects.

Regardless, California's rail system will have to compete for grants with other projects across the country, said Rick Harnish of the High Speed Rail Alliance. "The people with the best applications have the most opportunity to get the most money," he was quoted.

The California high-speed train reportedly already has enough funding allocated to complete a section of track from Bakersfield to Merced by the end of this decade, but additional federal monies could go a long way toward funding future segments. The project will eventually connect Los Angeles with San Francisco.

Egiptul va investi în linii complet electrificate, pentru a crea al şaselea mare sistem feroviar de mare viteză din lume

În Egipt va fi realizată o nouă linie feroviară de mare viteză vine, dezvoltatorul Siemens Mobility afirmând că va lega 60 de oraşe din întreaga ţară, transmite CNBC, citat de News.ro.

Liniile complet electrificate vor permite circulaţia unor trenuri cu o viteză maximă de 230 de kilometri pe oră, care vor călători de la Marea Roşie la Marea Mediterană, printre alte destinaţii.

Potrivit Siemens Mobility, electrificarea reţelei va reduce emisiile de carbon cu 70% în comparaţie cu călătoriile cu autobuzul sau cu maşina.

Compania a adăugat că proiectul va avea ca rezultat "al şaselea mare sistem feroviar de mare viteză" din lume.

Siemens Mobility – o companie administrată separat de gigantul industrial Siemens – a semnat contractul de dezvoltare a liniei de cale ferată cu Autoritatea Naţională Egipteană pentru Tuneluri, precum şi cu partenerii consorţiului The Arab Contractors şi Orascom Construction.

Într-o declaraţie de sâmbătă, Siemens Mobility a declarat că partea sa din contractul combinat se va ridica la 8,1 miliarde de euro, sau aproximativ 8,7 miliarde de dolari.

Siemens Mobility will supply 41 eight-car Velaro high-speed trains, 94 four-car high-capacity Desiro EMUs for regional services and 41 Vectron freight locomotives.

The Siemens Mobility share of the contract is €8.1bn, including an €2.7bn initial contract for the first 660km route from Ain Sokhna to Marsa Matrouh and Alexandria signed on September 1 2021.

The 15-year turnkey contract also includes the design, construction and maintenance of a 1100km route between Cairo and Abu Simbel near the Sudan border, and a third route running for 225km to connect the archaeological site of Luxor with Hurghada on the Red Sea.

On all three lines, Siemens Mobility will also install signalling based on ETCS Level 2, the traction power supply system and its digital Railigent system for asset and maintenance management.
