Finnair to serve nearly 100 destinations in summer 2022
Finnair has announced plans to fly to nearly 100 destinations in Asia, Europe and the US in summer 2022.


The season will begin on March 27, 2022, and will include new long-haul routes to Busan in South Korea, Tokyo Haneda and Dallas in the US.

In Asia, Finnair will resume service to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo "if travel restrictions allow", while also adding a new service to Tokyo's Haneda airport. The airline will also serve the Japanese city of Sapporo as a summer destination for the first time with two weekly frequencies, increase flights to Osaka to double daily in June, and fly to Fukuoka in southern Japan three times per week. Altogether, the carrier will fly up to 40 weekly flights between Helsinki and Japan next summer.

Ole Orver, CCO of Finnair, commented:
"Before the pandemic, Japan was our single largest market outside our home market Finland, and we look forward to returning to all our five destinations in Japan. We are also opening a new route to Busan in South Korea, demonstrating our continuous commitment to offering the best and most sustainable connections between Europe and Asia via our Helsinki hub."

The airline will also fly to Shanghai and daily to Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore and Bangkok, with additional daily flights to Delhi from June. The new Busan route will be launched in March with three weekly frequencies.

Meanwhile, Finnair will add the Dallas route to the North American network from February 7 – this will be operated four times weekly, offering connections to further destinations via Finnair's partner American Airlines.

Orver added:
"We are also pleased to strengthen our network in the US by adding Dallas as a new destination. Our customers will be able to enjoy great connections to other cities in North America through the extensive network of our alliance partner, American Airlines."

In Europe, Finnair will offer connections from Helsinki to over 70 European cities including the new destinations of Zagreb in Croatia and Larnaca in Cyprus. Customers will be able to experience the expansion of Helsinki Airport next month, which will include a new Terminal 2 entrance, arrivals hall and travel centre. A new security control and check-in area will follow in summer 2022.

Finnair resumes flights to Tokyo Narita with four weekly frequencies, avoiding Russian airspace

As of 9 March 2022, Finnair flies to Tokyo Narita airport four times a week out of Helsinki, avoiding the Russian airspace. The flight time is approximately 13 hours and the flights connect smoothly to Finnair's European network via its home hub Helsinki Airport.

"Japan is one of our most important markets, and we want to continue offering safe and reliable connections between Helsinki and Tokyo also in this situation", says Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer, Finnair. "Japan is also an important cargo market, and air connections are needed to keep cargo moving."

Finnair flies from Helsinki to Tokyo Narita four times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, departing at 17.30 local time. The Tokyo-Helsinki route is operated on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays departing at 22.40 local time. The flights are now available at Finnair.com.

Earlier this week Finnair cancelled its flights to China, Japan and South Korea until March 6, 2022. Finnair continues to fly to Bangkok, Delhi, Phuket and Singapore, with a longer routing that avoids Russian airspace. Finnair flies to Bangkok and Phuket also from Stockholm Arlanda in addition to Helsinki.

"We continue to evaluate possible alternative routings for our flights to China and South Korea and will communicate on these as soon as the plans are finalised", Orvér says.

Finnair communicates flight changes and cancellations directly to customers who have bookings that are affected by these changes. In case of flight cancellation, customers can change their travel times, accept an alternative flight, or apply for a full refund for the unused ticket.
