Heidelberg (German pronunciation: [ˈhaɪdəlbɛʁk]) is a city situated on the river Neckar in south-west Germany. The fifth-largest town in the State of Baden-Württemberg after Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Freiburg im Breisgau, Heidelberg is part of the densely populated Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region. In 2011, over 149,000 people lived in the city.

A former residence of the Electorate of the Palatinate, Heidelberg is the location of Heidelberg University, contemporary Germany's oldest and among its most reputable universities. Heidelberg is a popular tourist destination due to its romantic and picturesque cityscape, including Heidelberg Castle and the baroque style Old Town.

Almsee is a lake in Upper Austria's part of the Salzkammergut in the Almtal valley, 11 kilometers (6.8 mi) south of the village of Grünau im Almtal. The lake lies in the northern portion of the Totes Gebirge mountains and is about 2.3 kilometers (1.4 mi) by 700 meters (2,300 ft) wide.

The lake drains through the Alm River.[2] Since 1965, the area around the Almsee is under nature conservation. Konrad Lorenz made important observations of the greylag goose at the lake.

Gmunden ([ˈɡmʊndən]) is a town in Upper Austria, Austria in the district of Gmunden. It has 13,104 inhabitants (estimates 2015). It is much frequented as a health and summer resort, and has a variety of lake, brine, vegetable and pine-cone baths, a hydropathic establishment, inhalation chambers, whey cure, etc. It is also an important centre of the salt industry in Salzkammergut.
