SpaceX Confirms Crew Dragon Capsule Exploded During Test



The vice president of mission assurance for SpaceX, Hans Koenigsmann, confirmed during a press briefing today that the Crew Dragon capsule was destroyed in an explosion during a test last month, several weeks before the capsule was scheduled to carry NASA astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).

"Just prior to when we wanted to fire the SuperDraco, there was an anomaly, and the vehicle was destroyed," Koenigsmann said.

"While it is too early to confirm any cause, whether probable or crude, the initial data indicates that the anomaly occurred during the activation of the SuperDraco system," he added.

The capsule that was destroyed was the same capsule that was used in SpaceX's Demo-1, an uncrewed test flight in March, where it successfully docked with the ISS before successfully returning to Earth. SpaceX has another Crew Dragon capsule, but until a cause for the explosion is established, there's no way to tell if the problem was a design failure or the result of damage the capsule sustained as part of the Demo-1 mission.

Totusi nu a fost vorba de o capsula nou construita , atunci era problema mare. Cel mai probabil defectiunea e din cauza aterizarii in ocean.

SpaceX a lansat prima racheta cu sateliti (60 bucati) pentru reteaua Starlink . Misiunea a fost un succes iar racheta a fost recuperata prin aterizarea pe nava-drona "Of Course I Still Love You" .

^ As adauga ca toata constelația va avea vreo 700 de sateliți și vor să îi lanseze pe toti pana la finalul anului viitor. Adică în 18 luni. Incredibil la ce nivel au ajuns.

The total cost of the decade-long project to design, build and deploy such a network is estimated at nearly US$10 billion.

SpaceX is targeting Monday, June 24 for a Falcon Heavy launch of the STP-2 mission from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The primary launch window opens at 11:30 p.m. EDT, or 3:30 UTC on June 25, and closes at 3:30 a.m. EDT on June 25, or 7:30 UTC. A backup launch window opens on June 25 at 11:30 p.m. EDT, or 3:30 UTC on June 26, and closes at 3:30 a.m. EDT on June 26, or 7:30 UTC. Deployments will begin approximately 12 minutes after liftoff and end approximately 3 hours and 32 minutes after liftoff.

Falcon Heavy's side boosters for the STP-2 mission previously supported the Arabsat-6A mission in April 2019. Following booster separation, Falcon Heavy's two side boosters will attempt to land at SpaceX's Landing Zones 1 and 2 (LZ-1 and LZ-2) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Falcon Heavy's center core will attempt to land on the "Of Course I Still Love You" droneship, which will be stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.

Două de azi-noapte. Mai proaste știrile. CRS-18, misiunea cu Dragon pentru ISS, a fost amânată pentru noaptea asta (în România) din cauza vremii. Cred ca vor reuși la noapte.

Știrea mai proastă e că testul de ieri cu StarHopper a eșuat și a fost anulat. Nu se știe deocamdată când vor relua. Testul asta e pentru a verifica noul motor Raptor care va echipa noul vehicul SpaceX botezat StarShip (fost BFR - Big Falcon Rocket). StarShip va înlocui Falcon 9 și va duce oamenii pe orbita Pământului dar și pe Lună și pe Marte.
