LATAM submits $8.19 billion restructuring plan

LATAM Airlines Group has filed its reorganisation plan, including a proposed $8.19 billion infusion of capital.

The group filed for Chapter 11 protection in May 2020, following the "exceptional circumstances" of Covid-19 which led to global travel restrictions and a collapse in demand for flights.

LATAM said that a proposed infusion of $8.19 billion into the group through a mix of new equity, convertible notes and debt, would enable it "to exit Chapter 11 with appropriate capitalization to effectuate its business plan".

An accompanying Restructuring Support Agreement has been backed by the group's largest unsecured creditor group and "certain of LATAM's shareholders".

Pending approval of the plan in March next year, the group will launch an $800 million equity rights offering to shareholders.

LATAM said that upon emergence from Chapter 11 it expects to have total debt of around $7.26 billion and liquidity of around $2.67 billion, which it said was "a conservative debt load and appropriate liquidity in a period of continued uncertainty for global aviation".

Commenting on the news Roberto Alvo, Chief Executive Officer of LATAM Airlines Group S.A., said:

"The last two years have been characterised by hardship across the globe – we have lost friends and family, colleagues and loved ones. And we have reeled as global aviation and travel were brought to a virtual standstill by the largest crisis to ever face our industry.

"While our process is not yet over, we have reached a critical milestone in the path to a stronger financial future. We are grateful to the parties who have come to the table through a robust mediation process to reach this outcome, which provides meaningful consideration to all stakeholders and a structure that adheres to both US and Chilean law.

"Their infusion of significant new capital into our business is a testament to their support and belief in our long-term prospects. We are thankful for the exceptional team at LATAM that has weathered the uncertainty of the past two years and enabled our business to keep operating and serving our customers as seamlessly as possible."

Earlier this month LATAM announced plans to resume flights between Sao Paulo and London for the first time since January, with a four-times-weekly service launching on December 3.

Singapore Airlines launches Flight Pass for "discounted ticket bundles"

Singapore Airlines has launched a new Flight Pass offering in partnership with Optiontown, which it says will allow customers "to make advance purchases of discounted bundles of flight tickets that can be used against future bookings". Essentially customers can pre-purchase multiple flight tickets at the price offered at the time of purchase, and then decide on travel dates further down the line.

The Flight Pass can be customised according to required travel zones, the number of people who can share it, the number of flights required, the eligible travel period, and how far in advance a flight must be booked. Customers will then be offered a price, with a guarantee that "Additional surcharges will not be borne by the traveller even if the market fare of a flight increases". The option is initially being offered on SIA services between Singapore and Italy, South Korea, Spain, the Netherlands, and the UK, including VTL services.

US-based Optiontown also lists Travel Passes on its website for carriers including TAP Air Portugal, British Airways, Vietnam Airlines, Egyptair and Royal Jordanian.

Commenting on the news Mr Lee Lik Hsin, executive vice president commercial, Singapore Airlines, said: "As more quarantine-free international travel flights become available, Flight Pass offers Singapore Airlines customers greater flexibility and options when planning their trips. It allows them to enjoy greater cost savings by pooling their travel, and tailoring it according to their preferences. SIA will continue to find innovative ways to add value and offer even better choices for our customers."

More information on the Flight Pass service can be found at singaporeair.optiontown.com.

Qatar Airways celebrates 25th birthday with global sale

Qatar Airways has launched a global sale for UK customers as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations. The carrier in fact began operations in early 1994, but considers 2022 to be its 25th birthday as the airline was relaunched in 1997 under the mandate of His Highness The Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Flights to London also commenced that year.

Qatar Airways says that fares from the UK can be had from £359 return, with additional "special savings" on seat selection, extra baggage allowance, hotel bookings and car rental during a five-day period from January 4. The fare sale period runs until January 10, 2022 at qatarairways.com/25Years (or via any local Qatar Airways sales office or preferred travel agents). Customers joining the carrier's Privilege Club using the code FLYQR22 will also receive a bonus 2,500 Qmiles in celebration of the anniversary.

Qatar Airways recently extended the status benefits within its Privilege Club loyalty programme, with all Silver, Gold and Platinum members whose tier status is due for renewal between now and December 2022 seeing their status extended until December 31, 2022.
