The aircraft will be divided into international business class, premium economy and economy cabins in a colour scheme based on grey and neutral colours accented with red and blue.

The new interior product will be featured on Air Canada's 787-8s entering the fleet in 2014 and the larger 787-9s that it will start to receive in 2015. Seating capacity for the latter variant has not yet been revealed.

The international business class cabin on the 787-8 will feature 20 "executive pods" with B/E Aerospace lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. The seats feature headrests with pneumatic cushions and a massaging function and will offer aisle access.

"We are very excited to introduce completely re-designed seating and cabin amenities that will offer Air Canada customers the very best in comfort and contemporary design," said Ben Smith, executive vice-president and chief commercial officer of the Montreal-based airline.

Air France-KLM To Sell CityJet

QuoteAir France-KLM said it had received a firm offer from Germany's Intro Aviation to purchase its CityJet regional airline as well as its subsidiary VLM.

Financial terms for the deal were not disclosed. Air France-KLM said in a statement it expected the transaction to close in the first quarter of 2014.

Intro Aviation, founded in 1973 and based near Nuremberg, acquired German airline Deutsche BA from British Airways - now part of IAG - for one euro in 2003.

The airline was renamed DBA and then sold to Air Berlin, Germany's No. 2 airline, in 2006. The same year, Intro Aviation took a majority stake in Germany's LTU group before selling the rehabilitated carrier to Air Berlin in 2007.

Dublin-based CityJet, the No. 1 carrier at London City Airport, has a fleet of 38 aircraft and offers more than 480 weekly flights across Europe.

SIA and Air New Zealand announce major alliance

QuoteSingapore Airlines and Air New Zealand have entered an agreement that will see capacity between their two countries grow by 30% and extensive codesharing between the pair.

Under the proposed alliance, Singapore Airlines would upgauge one of its daily Singapore-Auckland services to an Airbus A380 aircraft from the Boeing 777-300ER it now uses on the route, says the carrier in a statement.

Air New Zealand would take over five of SIA's weekly Auckland-Singapore services using its recently re-fitted 777-200ERs. It would also add two additional flights, giving ANZ daily services to Singapore.

The deal is subject to regulatory approvals, but the two Star Alliance carriers hope to eventually increase capacity between Singapore and New Zealand by up to 30% annually.

Under the proposed deal, Air New Zealand will be able to place its code on SIA and Silkair flights originating from Singapore, while SIA will be able to place its code on Air New Zealand's domestic flights out of Auckland as well as "selected international destinations."

Alitalia, Etihad Meet Banks As Due Diligence Intensifies

QuoteEtihad Airways and Alitalia's creditors have held talks ahead of a potential investment in the troubled Italian carrier by the Abu Dhabi-based group, the chief executive of Italy's UniCredit bank said on Friday.

Alitalia's debt and additional cost cuts are likely to be the main topics of negotiations between the two airlines which said they were in the final phase of due diligence for a possible investment that could help make Alitalia profitable again.

UniCredit CEO Federico Ghizzoni said meetings with banks and the airlines had already happened in Rome this week.

"I'm pretty confident that a solution will be found," Ghizzoni told journalists on the sidelines of an event in Verona.

Asked if debt restructuring was on the agenda of the meetings, Ghizzoni said: "We are not talking about debt restructuring, but how to move forward the relationship with the banks in case Etihad becomes an Alitalia shareholder."

The banks exposed to Alitalia's debt include UniCredit, Intesa Sanpaolo, Monte dei Paschi di Siena and Banca Popolare di Sondrio.

Qatar to take first A380s in June, plans Farnborough extravaganza

QuoteQatar Airways has pushed back its Airbus A380 deliveries to the middle of this year to coincide with the opening of the new Doha airport. Meanwhile the airline is aiming to steal the limelight at this year's Farnborough air show by displaying no less than four airliners including an A380, an A320, an A350, and a 787.

"We will receive our first three A380s in June, which were supposed to be delivered in April, May and June," says Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker. "This delay is due to the opening of Doha's new Hamad International Airport."

Qatar Airways will bring its first A380 to the Farnborough air show in July, where it will also display a Boeing 787-8 and a sharklet-equipped A320. Al Baker says the airline's line-up will be completed by Airbus displaying A350-900 MSN4 adorned in a hybrid scheme with Qatar Airways titles and branding.

The opening of the new airport – which has been delayed by over a year due to wrangles over completion contracts with suppliers - is expected to take place in the coming months.
